Resumo
No ensino do design do começo do século 20 surgem as iniciativas designadas como linguagem visual ou linguagem da forma – que na Bauhaus correspondem ao Curso Preliminar e às disciplinas a ele correlatas. A consolidação e permanência deste conceito pedagógico, de vários modos e em formatações variadas, podem ainda hoje ser constatadas nos cursos de design. O objetivo deste texto é: (a) propor balizamentos teóricos que permitam uma visão adequada da questão; (b) indicar tópicos de pesquisa relativos à sua dinâmica.

Abstract
The teaching of Design in the early twentieth century gave way to what was named Visual Language or Language of Form ¬– corresponding to the Preliminary Course and its related disciplines in the Bauhaus. The consolidation and permanence of this pedagogical concept, in different ways and varied structures, can still be seen today in the courses of design. The objective of the present text is: (a) to propose theoretical delimitations that aim at an appropriate vision of the theme; (b) to indicate topics that aim at the understanding of this issue’s dynamic.
