The main objective at undergraduate level is to equip students with a broad knowledge of the media, materials and processes of design. The course is structured on a unified basis, with all students in a single year taking the same classes.

The college promotes an essentially hands-on approach, complemented by an intensive concern with the theoretical dimensions involved in thinking about design.

Undergraduate training at ESDI has traditionally aimed to achieve a balance between a rigorous application of method and the freedom to experiment with individual forms of expression.

Investigation and analysis of the languages, technologies and histories of design provide the frame of reference for the student to devise and develop innovative concepts and structures.
