Online launch of "Everyday Acts of design: learning in a time of emergency"

We are delighted to invite you to the online launch of our book "Everyday Acts of design: learning in a time of emergency", which has just been published by Bloomsbury's "Designing in dark times" collection. In the book, we recount the events that unfolded into a crisis at ESDI (School of Industrial Design) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016-18, when, together, we were responsible for the school's management. From the account of the efforts of the academic community of this design school to keep the school alive in an unforgiving reality, we argue that designing today is a practice of engaging with everyday crises: design does not come from above, as a blueprint for the future, but is realized through everyday acts and radical experimentation in the here and now of social life.

The book will be launched on December 1, 12pm EST, in an online conversation at Zoom, when we will be joined by Clive Dilnot (one of the editors of the "Designing in Dark Times" series), Mila Burns (Lehman College's Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies (CUNY), and Frederico Duarte (Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon).

Please feel free to circulate the launch among your networks of students and colleagues and among potential interested parties in design issues, in their relations to education, democracy, and everyday life.
